*ARC courtesy of Avon via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review**The review might contain tiny spoilers*I don't know what to say about this book so that it'll explain how much I liked it and I can't seem to do it without spoilers either. Ms. MacLean's books get better and better every time. Now, trying to write a review and not sounding like a crazy fangirl is impossible, so I'll let myself start:Ms. MacLean is my heroooo[heroine doesn't have the same impact]!OMG Cross rocks!OMG Pippa is the best character EVER!All the characters rock! I love the club and it's architecture and it's admittance of ladies![Hasn't worked :))]I've taken that of my chest so I'll try to write something more appropriate to my age[don't expect the impossible:D]...The book starts where the other one left off, with Pippa in Cross' office/sleeping chamber and him having no idea what to do with this smart, slightly crazy woman in his space. When she says why she's there he's literally left open-mouthed. Now, he tries to do the gentlemanly thing and refuse her, it works for a day or 2, but she winds a very unexpected loophole. As you can imagine, all the fun starts after this.Pippa doesn't want to be on of these people, she wants to know beforehand everything she gives her word to Pippa's character actually reminds me of Temperance "Bones" Brennan: neither of them know what to do with emotions, they take things literally, and are more intelligent then everyone around them. Pippa has a great number of passions, anatomy horticulture and astronomy among them, and she tends to blurt out things at inappropriate times which cracked me up, every time. After studying the marriage vows, a few weeks before her wedding, starts the whole problem. Her obsession necessity to understand everything(even this part to satisfy men’s carnal lusts and appetites, like brute beasts that have no understanding) drives her to the mad idea to ask the "leading expert" of the field, Cross.Cross is a damaged man, who feels responsible for his family's loss. He's solution(men are idiots by the way) is to... well... there's no way to say this without spoilers so I'll let you read it. What's important, is that he, in a way, hides from the aristocracy and everyone who might want to get close to him. He's amazed and flabbergasted when Pippa barges in his office and demands ruination. The Angel's foundersCross and Pippa are a match made in Heaven: he understands her perfectly, with all her quirks and science talk, and she understands and, ultimately, saves him. It's beautiful love story, with unexpected twists and turns, that will leave you wanting for more. Quotes:She smiled. “I rather like skulking about in gaming hells.”“Perhaps.” He stepped closer, blocking out the light from the house. “But perhaps it is also because when you complete your research, you can walk away and forget it ever happened.”“I would never forget it,” she said, the truth coming quick and free. She spoke to her hands. “It’s just that . . . since we met, I have been rather . . . well, fascinated by . . .”You.Say it, he willed, not entirely certain what he would do if she did, but willing to put himself to the test. She took another breath. “By your bones.”Would she ever say anything expected? “My bones?”She nodded. “Yes. Well, the muscles and tendons, too. Your forearms. Your thighs. And earlier—while I watched you drink whiskey—by your hands.”Cross had been propositioned many times in his life. He’d made a career of refusing women’s requests. But he had never been complimented on his bones. It was the strangest, sexiest confession he’d ever heard. And he had no idea how to respond.Final rating: 5 glowing stars!
